About RisuAI
RisuAI is an open-source chat client for AI roleplay that runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and in a browser. It does not host a language model of its own, so users connect an API such as OpenAI, Claude, Gemini or OpenRouter, or a local backend. The project is released under the GPL-3.0 licence and is developed in the open on GitHub.
Features include lorebooks, group chats, emotion images, regex scripts, plugins, automatic translation and long-term memory compression through its HypaMemory system. Characters can be shared and downloaded through RisuRealm, a community card library, and card files from other platforms can be imported. Because the client is free and has no content filter of its own, output rules depend on the model provider the user selects. Setup takes more effort than a hosted site, since the user supplies and pays for the model access.
