About SillyTavern

SillyTavern is a free, open-source frontend for chat-based roleplay with large language models, distributed under the AGPL license and installed locally on the user's computer. Rather than providing its own AI, it connects to external backends including OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, NovelAI, KoboldAI, AI Horde and locally hosted models, giving users full control over which model powers their characters.

The interface supports importable character cards in the common Tavern PNG/JSON format, group chats with several characters in one scene, WorldInfo lorebooks for persistent setting details, fine-grained prompt and sampler settings, a visual novel display mode, and extensions covering text-to-speech and image generation through Stable Diffusion tools. Development is active, with regular releases and several hundred contributors on GitHub. SillyTavern itself applies no content filter; moderation depends entirely on the connected model. The software is free to use, with costs arising only from optional third-party API usage.
