About Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot is Microsoft's consumer AI assistant, available on the web at copilot.microsoft.com, in Windows, and through mobile apps. The free tier includes chat, web answers with clickable citations, image generation, and voice interaction, with usage limits during periods of high demand. Copilot answers from the public web and from files uploaded in the moment; connecting it to personal email, documents, and calendar requires a paid subscription.
Microsoft discontinued the standalone Copilot Pro subscription on October 1, 2025 and moved its features into Microsoft 365 Premium at $19.99/mo ($199.99/yr). That plan bundles the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote desktop applications with Copilot built into each, along with Researcher and Analyst agents for source-cited reports and data analysis. Under the hood Microsoft routes Copilot workloads across models from OpenAI and Anthropic; its Cowork agent moved from Claude models to GPT-5.6 as its preferred model in July 2026.
