Meta AI is Meta's free assistant built on the company's Llama models. It is embedded in WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger, and also runs as a standalone mobile app and on the web at meta.ai. Users can chat with it directly, tag it in group conversations, generate and edit images, summarize content, and ask general questions with web-informed answers. Meta reports more than a billion monthly users of the assistant across its family of apps as of 2026.
There is no paid tier; all features are free. A point to weigh: since December 16, 2025 Meta uses conversations with the assistant to personalize ads across its platforms, and users in the United States cannot opt out of this while using Meta AI (EU, UK, and South Korea users are exempt, and sensitive topics are excluded from targeting). The assistant suits quick everyday questions inside apps people already use rather than long-form analytical work.
